•On Thursday, October 17, at around 7:30 a.m., a vehicle driven by a Japanese resident was shot at four times from behind while attempting to flee from robbers near the Apaseo el Grande Industrial Zone (Highway 45D) in Guanajuato State.

1. Incident Overview

At around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, a Japanese male (company representative) was driving an SUV on the highway, heading from Querétaro State toward León. While passing through the area near the Apaseo el Grande Industrial Zone (Highway 45D), he encountered two robbers attacking the vehicle in front of him. The vehicle under attack had stopped and was attempting to reverse to escape. The Japanese man also tried to reverse but couldn’t, as there was another vehicle behind him. The two armed robbers, carrying rifles, approached his vehicle. Seizing a brief opportunity, the man drove through the gap between the robbers and managed to escape. During his escape, the robbers fired at his vehicle from behind, hitting the rear of the car four times, but fortunately, the man was unharmed.

2. Safety Precautions

Although security patrols are conducted in the area, similar vehicle robberies continue to occur frequently in the region. Extra caution is advised, especially when traveling near state borders.

While the individual in this case managed to escape without harm, such actions can provoke the attackers and carry significant risk. Japanese residents are advised to prioritize their safety above all else if they encounter such a situation.

•(1) Vehicle robberies can occur even during daylight hours. Recently, incidents have been particularly frequent on Highway 45D between Salamanca and the Querétaro state border. When crossing state borders, consider the route and time of travel carefully.

•(2) Most vehicle robberies involve the use of firearms or roadblocks, and these crimes are often carried out aggressively. High speeds on highways increase the risk of serious accidents when attempting to flee. If escape seems difficult, do not force it, and follow the robbers’ instructions.

•(3) If you fall victim to a robbery, do not resist. Comply with the robbers’ demands, avoid making eye contact, and do not chase after them. Such actions can provoke the attackers, increasing the risk of harm to your life or body. Generally, the risk of harm decreases when valuables are handed over without resistance, so remain calm and follow the robbers’ instructions.
