Location: Democratic Republic of the Congo(DRC)
Event: The Government of Rwanda has confirmed cases of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) in health facilities in Rwanda. Out of an abundance of caution, U.S. Embassy Kinshasa is deferringall non-essential travel to, or through, Goma, DRCand Rwanda, for all U.S. Embassy personnel.
Additional health screenings at border crossings and airports may occur. Travelers should expect delays.
Actions to Take:
- Learn more about the signs and symptoms of Marburg Virus Disease as well as risk factors.
- Seek medical care immediately if you develop sudden fever, chills, feeling sick, severe headache, body and back aches and loss of appetite, or if you have been in close contact with someone with suspected Marburg Virus Disease.
- U.S. citizens in the DRC as well as potential travelers should enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at step.state.govto receive important emergency information as well as monitor local news about developments.
