Mexico: Approach of Hurricane John to Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas

Location: States of Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas

 

Event: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports that Hurricane John is forecast to approach the southern coast of Mexico tonight, and move inland tomorrow.  A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Punta Maldonado to Bahias de Huatulco.  A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for East of Bahias de Huatulco to Salina Cruz.  U.S. citizens in the impacted areas should monitor the progress of Hurricane John.

 

Actions To Take:

·        Monitor local media for updates, follow directions from local officials, and in case of emergency, call 911.

·        Be prepared to seek shelter.

·        Flights could be impacted.  Check with your airline for updates.

·        Monitor the National Hurricane Center  and the Mexican National Meteorological Service  (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional) on storm activity and emergency response.

·        Keep friends and loved ones advised of your whereabouts via phone, text, and social media.
