- There has been a report from a Japanese national residing locally that counterfeit $100 bills (labeled as “PLAY MONEY”) were found mixed with real currency when withdrawing cash at the Bank of Guam, Majuro branch.
- If you do not notice the counterfeit bills upon receipt, you may face financial losses and risk becoming involved in legal trouble if you use them.
To avoid falling victim to counterfeit currency:
- Inspect bills immediately upon receipt to identify any counterfeit money.
- Counterfeit bills will have “PLAY MONEY” printed where the serial number should be, and there will be diagonal lines drawn on the top right of the front side and the top left of the back side.
- While the texture may feel like regular paper, the thickness, size, and other design features are confirmed to match real $100 bills.
