Recent reports indicate that gangs are active in committing robbery and theft on the streets of Antananarivo. There have been cases where even residents have fallen victim to these crimes.
According to local police information, the following details are known:
• Primary Activity Areas: Roads in Antananarivo, including Rue Ravoninahitriniarivo (the main street in front of the JICA office, IBIS Hotel, and La City).
• Modus Operandi: Thieves reach into vehicles stopped in traffic to steal items such as mobile phones, or they surround pedestrians to snatch their belongings.
Recently, there have been incidents where residents walking near the South African Embassy on the same road have been surrounded and robbed by these gangs.

• Avoid walking in the affected areas or avoid going alone if possible.
• If confronted by robbers, prioritize personal safety and avoid resistance.
• Keep windows closed and locked during traffic stops to prevent theft while in a vehicle.
