1. Incident Overview

- Time: Around 5:30 PM
- Location: From Lineal Park to the Soumaya Museum, Polanco District, Mexico City
- Details: A Japanese man was walking alone from Lineal Park toward the Soumaya Museum when he was approached by a man who threatened him with a knife. The assailant demanded that the victim hand over his valuables. The Japanese man complied and gave the thief a backpack containing his wallet and mobile phone. Fortunately, the victim was unharmed.
2. Precautions
- (1) Avoid going out during early morning or late evening when it is dark. Opt for times when there are more people around.
- (2) When walking, choose well-populated routes. Whenever possible, travel with others rather than alone.
- (3) Stay aware of your surroundings at all times. If you feel uneasy or suspect something suspicious, leave the area or seek help from nearby pedestrians or businesses.
- (4) In the event of a robbery, comply with the assailant’s demands without resistance. Avoid actions that might provoke or challenge the attacker. Generally, complying with demands reduces the risk of physical harm.
- (5) Once you are safe, report the incident to emergency services by calling 911. Prompt reporting can help law enforcement respond quickly and potentially resolve the case sooner. Additionally, file a “Denuncia” (crime report) with the prosecutor’s office. This report is necessary for insurance claims and for passport reissuance if required due to the crime.
