    (1) Incident Summary: – The traveler arranged for a taxi rental for a day to tour Addis Ababa but decided to look for a cheaper taxi on their own due to the high cost. – The traveler, carrying a backpack containing valuables, exited their accommodation and negotiated with the driver of a taxi-like vehicle parked nearby. – After agreeing on the fare, the traveler got into the taxi. On the way back to the accommodation after the tour, the driver informed the traveler that there was a police checkpoint ahead and suggested urgently getting out to avoid possible arrest. – The traveler, following the driver’s advice, left the backpack inside the taxi and exited at a less crowded location. A few minutes later, the driver took advantage of the traveler’s distraction, got back into the taxi, and drove away with the backpack still in the vehicle.
