On the afternoon of the 29th, a Japanese traveler walking alone along a main road in Kiambu County was targeted by two individuals on a motorcycle, who snatched the wallet from their hand. Fortunately, the victim was not injured. However, since the incident occurred shortly after the victim visited a bank, it is possible that they were being followed.
We urge all Japanese residents and travelers to remain aware that “this is not Japan” and to take the following precautions:
- Stay vigilant after visiting banks or financial institutions.
- If targeted in a snatch theft, prioritize your safety. Do not resist or attempt to retrieve stolen items.
- Avoid walking whenever possible, even during daylight hours, and opt for vehicular transport.
- If walking is unavoidable, keep valuables such as wallets and mobile phones out of sight.
Please remain cautious and take necessary precautions to minimize risks.
