On August 7, around 11 AM, a Japanese traveler in Swakopmund was the victim of a street robbery. The traveler had withdrawn cash from an ATM and was walking back to their accommodation when they were attacked by two men who approached from behind. The attackers stole a waist pouch containing the traveler’s passport, cash, mobile phone, and credit cards. The traveler sustained minor scratches but was otherwise unharmed.

We advise all Japanese nationals and travelers to use vehicles for even short distances to avoid walking. When withdrawing cash from ATMs, please be vigilant and ensure there are no suspicious individuals nearby.

If you become a victim of a robbery or similar incident, ensure your safety and promptly report it to the police, obtaining a “robbery report” or similar documentation at the nearest police station.
