Starting July 1, 2024, an electronic travel authorization system (ETA-IL system) for short-term stays in Israel, such as for tourism or short-term business, has been introduced.

  • Initially, the pilot period was set to end on July 31, 2024, but it has now been extended until December 31, 2024. During this period, applications are optional and free of charge. However, starting January 1, 2025, obtaining the authorization before travel will be mandatory, and a fee of 25 shekels will apply.
  • The validity of the electronic travel authorization is either 2 years or until the expiration of the passport, whichever is shorter. Multiple trips are allowed within the validity period (with each stay up to 90 days), and there is no need to obtain authorization for each trip.
  • Applications can be made at any time, but it is recommended to apply at least 72 hours before traveling to Israel.
  • Starting January 1, 2025, if you do not obtain the electronic travel authorization, you may be denied boarding or entry. Please be cautious.
  • This system applies to those entering Israel for short-term stays under visa waiver, not for those entering with work or student visas.

Application procedure:

  • Applications can be made via the “Check & Apply” section on the following website: https://israel-entry.piba.gov.il/
  • The process is generally as follows:
    1. Prepare a valid passport, email address, and credit card (VISA, MasterCard, or Amex).
    2. Fill out the application form with the required details.
    3. After submitting the application, you will receive a confirmation email.
    4. If approved, you will receive an email with your ETA-IL number, validity start date, and conditions. Keep a copy of this email during your stay in Israel.
    5. If additional information is required, you will receive an email detailing how to provide it.
    6. If your application is denied, you will receive an email with the result and instructions to contact the help center for further assistance.
  • For technical issues or questions about the application process, please contact the Israeli government service center at eta@piba.gov.il.
