Precautionary Measures Robbery incidents continue to occur on public transportation in the country. While the passengers in this incident complied with the assailant’s demands, it has been reported that in the past, individuals who did not comply with such demands have lost their lives. Given that the country is experiencing a major public holiday, we urge all Japanese nationals to pay special attention to the following points and prioritize their safety in the event of such an incident:
-
(1) Robbery incidents are more frequent at night or during hours when fewer people are around. Avoid unnecessary travel during nighttime hours.
-
(2) Robbers may use firearms or other violent methods. There have been reports of victims being shot when they resisted. If you are faced with a robbery, prioritize your life and comply with the assailant’s instructions without resistance.
-
(3) In the event of a robbery, try to minimize your losses by carrying cash and cards separately.
