  • On Sunday, April 13th, at around 3:15 PM, a robbery involving a firearm-like object occurred on the streets of the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) area in Taguig City, Manila.

  • Specifically, two Japanese nationals were walking along the sidewalk of 9th Ave. in the BGC area (near the intersection of 34th Str. and 35th Str.) when two assailants approached them from behind and blocked their path. One of the attackers pointed a firearm-like object at the victims, prompting one of the victims to hand over their shoulder bag. The other victim hesitated to give up their bag, and during this moment, the attacker struck the victim’s head with the grip of the firearm-like object before forcibly taking the bag. The assailants then fled on a motorcycle parked nearby.

  • This is the first reported incident of a robbery using a firearm-like object in the BGC area during daylight hours. Given this, we urge all Japanese residents, travelers, and business people to maintain an even higher level of awareness of personal security (considering vehicle transport even for short distances, distributing valuables while walking, etc.).
