Cayman Islands: Hurricane Warning Issued

Location: The Cayman Islands

Event: A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Cayman Islands as of today, November 4, 2024.  The latest forecast track has the system moving between Grand Cayman and Little Cayman by midday on November 5, 2024.  Significant rainfall, wind force and storm surge are expected.  Local authorities urge the public to take immediate precautions to protect themselves and their properties, such as securing buildings, gathering emergency supplies, and seeking higher ground or shelter.  The public is encouraged to check for information on the following platforms:

Due to the storm, the U.S. Consular Agency in George Town, Grand Cayman is available for emergency services only.

Actions to Take:

  • Contact your airline to verify airport openings, your updated flight itinerary, and other details.
  • Shelter in a structure that can withstand rainfall and winds. If such shelter is not available to you, you should move to a local government shelter. Information on Caymanian government shelters can be found at the links in this email. DO NOT seek shelter at the U.S. Embassy or Consular Agencies.
  • Monitor the National Hurricane Center at www.nhc.noaa.gov ,  the Cayman Islands Government at www.caymanprepared.gov.ky , and local media for forecasts, shelter locations, warnings, and official instructions.
  • Follow all instructions from local authorities.
  • Inform a friend or family member of travel plans and your safety this week.
  • Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
