Uruguay: Advisory for October 30 International Soccer Match
•On Wednesday, October 30, at 9:30 PM, an international soccer match (Libertadores Cup) will be held at a stadium in Montevideo.
•If you plan to be out, exercise caution around the stadium, its vicinity, and areas where supporter groups may gather, as there is a risk of disturbances.
The match between CA Peñarol and Botafogo FR (Brazil) is part of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Cup’s final tournament and will take place at CA Peñarol’s home stadium in Montevideo, which has a capacity of 40,000. Approximately 2,000 Botafogo FR supporters are expected; however, Uruguay’s Ministry of the Interior has expressed intentions to bar their entry due to security concerns, leaving the situation uncertain.
During the last match between these teams on October 23 in Rio de Janeiro, violence erupted as Botafogo FR supporters converged on a designated CA Peñarol gathering area, leading to clashes. Additional unrest involved over 250 CA Peñarol supporters who engaged in vandalism, looting, and even firearm possession, resulting in mass arrests. Due to the risk of retaliatory violence, it is advised to remain cautious.
