According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, as of 1:00 PM on October 8, Hurricane Milton is located in the southern Gulf of Mexico, moving northeast to east-northeast at a speed of approximately 15 miles per hour. The hurricane is expected to strengthen further and make landfall in Florida as a Category 5 hurricane on the night of October 9.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center has issued a warning for heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, storm surges, and high waves as the hurricane approaches northwestern Cuba between this evening and tomorrow.

Please stay informed by monitoring updates from the relevant authorities and refer to the following “Disaster Preparedness Checklist” to ensure you have all necessary supplies. Avoid any non-essential outings. In particular, residents and travelers in western Cuba, including Pinar del Río Province and Isla de la Juventud, should exercise extreme caution.

For Japanese nationals currently traveling in or planning to visit Cuba, it is recommended that you check the status of flights with your airline or travel agency, secure up-to-date local information, inform your family and friends of your situation, and make sure you have enough cash and food before communications and transportation services are disrupted.
