Security Alert – Awareness During Election Season – U.S. Embassy Maputo, Mozambique 11/03/2024

Event: While the U.S. Embassy is not anticipating specific threats during the Mozambique 2024 elections, it is possible that marches, rallies, or demonstrations can occur. These events do not generally affect U.S. citizens; however, they can be unpredictable, have in the past had large police presence and could, without warning, become violent. The Embassy would like to remind U.S. citizens in Mozambique to take the safety precautions below.
Actions to Take:
- Be aware of your surroundings and avoid larger crowds when possible.
- Maintain a low profile and carry proper identification.
- Review your security plans.
