At approximately 8:00 AM on Wednesday, September 18, a Japanese school student in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, was attacked by a man while walking to school and was injured. The student was undergoing treatment at a medical facility but, unfortunately, passed away in the early hours of the 19th. We extend our deepest condolences.
Although the suspect has been apprehended by the authorities, the details and background of the incident remain unclear, and we are strongly urging the Chinese authorities to provide information.
On June 24, an incident occurred in Suzhou where a Japanese parent and child were stabbed, and a series of incidents involving Japanese nationals being harmed have continued. In addition, stabbing incidents have been occurring in various places across China, particularly in crowded areas.
Our embassy, in cooperation with consulates, has strongly requested Chinese authorities to provide explanations regarding this incident, ensure the safety of Japanese nationals, and strengthen security at Japanese schools.
We continue to urge everyone to remain vigilant of their surroundings, especially when out in public, and to take measures to ensure safety. Please be particularly cautious when accompanying children, such as traveling in groups.
