● Today, the U.S. Embassy in Kenya issued an advisory regarding the threat of terrorism within the country. The embassy warns that terrorists may target hotels, embassies, restaurants, shopping malls, schools, police stations, places of worship, and other locations frequently visited by foreigners and tourists, and could carry out attacks without warning. ● The embassy notes that the approach of significant dates, such as the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks in the U.S., the September 21st Westgate Mall attack, and the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel, tends to heighten concerns about terrorism.

● While no specific threats have been identified at this time, Japanese nationals residing in or visiting Kenya are urged to remain aware of the situation, stay informed, and adopt a mindset of “This is not Japan.” Please take the following precautions to avoid being caught up in terrorist incidents or other unforeseen situations.

(1) Make every effort to stay updated on the latest relevant information.

(2) Be fully aware that the following locations are likely targets for terrorist attacks: Western embassies (including the U.S.), tourist destinations, sports stadiums, concerts, public events such as holidays and festivals, public transportation, tourist attractions, restaurants, hotels, shopping malls, supermarkets, nightclubs, cinemas, places of worship (churches, mosques), and government facilities (particularly military, police, and security-related facilities).

(3) Follow the instructions of local authorities if they issue any directives. In the event of incidents involving gunfire, vehicle ramming, or explosives, listen carefully to the instructions from police officers and remain calm.
