Weather Alert Update – Typhoon Yagi

Location:  North-East Vietnam

This is an update to the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi’s previous alert on Typhoon Yagi.  Typhoon Yagi has made landfall over Vietnam with winds over 92 mph.  Throughout Saturday and into the early morning Sunday, September 8, we anticipate high winds and heavy rain to continue with danger of flooding, landslides, and damage caused by flying debris, including tree branches and falling trees.  Coastal provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ninh are anticipated to be most heavily affected.

The U.S. Embassy is monitoring initial reports of power outage, downed trees, and high wind gusts affecting Norther Vietnam, including Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Nam Dinh, Thai Dinh, and Hanoi.  U.S. citizens should avoid going out in these areas unless instructed by authorities.  Even after the storm passes, the threat of flash floods and landslides may persist, so please remain vigilant and monitor news sources for additional information.
