  1. Incident Overview in Addis Ababa:
    • Date and Time: March 10 (Sunday) at around 1:00 PM
    • Location: Sidewalk near Friendship Mall on Airport Road, Bole District
    • Incident Summary: While walking alone, the victim was approached by two men. One man grabbed the victim’s left arm and tried to sell a watch while holding onto the arm. While the victim was trying to free their left arm, the other man approached from the right side. After the victim freed their arm, the men fled. It was only after the men had left that the victim realized their smartphone, which was in the right pocket of their jacket and zipped up, had been stolen.

    • b. Theft often involves distractions such as grabbing the arm, splashing water or saliva, or pretending to sell items to divert attention and steal valuables. If your mobile phone is visible and unsecured, it is likely to be targeted. Use chains or straps for valuables like wallets and phones, and secure them to your clothing or body.
    • c. Always stay vigilant of your surroundings. If you notice suspicious individuals approaching, leave the area immediately and seek help from police officers or nearby people in clear terms.
    • d. If threatened with a weapon or firearm, prioritize your safety and comply without resistance.
